MORE THAN 50% OF THE SMEs WORKING IN SPACE ARE CONFRONTED WITH THE EFFECTS OF UKRAINIAN WAR
SME4SPACE has the first batch of responses of the ‘’Consequences of the geopolitical situation to Space SMEs’’ and we are starting to extract some interesting findings. First results indicate, with no surprise, that more than 50% of the European SMEs working in the space sector are confronted with issues due to the war.
From the survey, it seems that the war between Russia and Ukraine has significantly disrupted the supply chain of some elements in the space market, while the alternative solutions cause delays to fill the newly created gaps. In addition, the price of commodities has increased, on top of the already high prices due to the existing energy issues.
CONCRETE MEASURES RECOMMENDATIONS
To mitigate the negative effects of this crisis, between 35% to 39% of the European SMEs within the space sector suggested:
- Economic assistance via an increase of the budget for ongoing project.
- Efforts should be made for modification of the priorities in the ongoing programmes, such as Critical Technologies for Non-Dependence.
- Firm-fixed prices should be reviewed, allowing SMEs to remain resilient and gradually absorb the negative economic effects.
